Riverside, CA Accessible Kitchen

We met the Lobato family in 2013 and installed two simple ramps to allow their daughter Elizabeth to exit the home from the front and side of the house in her power wheelchair.

Once the ramps were complete, Elizabeth’s dad Terry entertained the idea of making the bathroom accessible so that Elizabeth can shower on her own. We designed the shower for her special needs, allowing for a custom height shower valve and handheld shower.

Now Elizabeth can get in and out of the house and bathe more effectively and independently. Ramps and accessible showers are everyday projects for us here at Gamburd (now Lifeway Mobility).

The next stop was making the kitchen more wheelchair accessible. We came up with a few different designs to allow for a multiple height counter top with multiple sinks. Unfortunately, we couldn’t install two cooktops due to space and aesthetic reasons. Check out the video below to see how we managed to fix this problem.
